No, not really. I find that I like reading books in English rather than in my own language because I like the different writing styles of foreign authors as opposed to local authors. :)

My first language is French. I have read a few books in French but the majority of what I read is English. Mostly because I'm in Ontario and the French section at my local chapters has only about 20 books :(

There is some Authors, I only read in French. Like Patrick Modiano,

But for anything else, as I am a fast reader I prefer to read in Spanish, mostly. Sometimes in English which I understand mainly but make me read slower.

French was my first language, but I have been away from it for many years. Having read all the classics in high school/university, I don't do that route now. There are contemporary authors-I find some a bit unusual sometimes. I have enjoyed a Nora Roberts or Harlan Coben !translated, occasionally.

My first language is English. However, I also enjoy trying to read short novels in other languages -- in pieces. I've recently tried to read Sea of Shadow (part of the 12 Kingdoms series) by Fuyumi Ono.

My first language is Greek. I read both greek and english books but i find contemporary greek books of low quality but there are some "diamonds". I believe that it is better to read a book at it's original language. but that's not always possible. I;d like to learn french and spanish (i have started spanish lessons) in order to read books in that language.

i have exactly the opposite problem in greek books. Most contemporary greek literature is apolitical. and you can't be apolitic when everything is determined through politics. i don't like parties but as a citizen i am interested in politics.

Given that my only language is English, I have to read in my first language, if I am going to read. I took French in high school, but it wasn't a well-taught class. I had to have a French Bible for it, but gave it away to a friend who was somewhat fluent in French.

i do read in my first language mostly, granted mine is English, however. I read some in Spanish, but it's hard to find non-translated ones.

 I read a lot in my first language (Portuguese).
In the past few years I started reading some authors (like Tess Gerritsen, Dean Koontz) in the originals (English) because:
(a) English books are easier to access
(b) It's cheaper (the pockets)
(c) I don't have enough patience to wait the translation
(d) so much is lost in translation
(e) there isn't a translation!

My first language is Tagalog/Filipino and I very seldom read books written in it because although I speak the language fluently, I find reading it a challenge. Too much so that I end up no longer enjoying the story that I'm reading.
