I'm currently dating someone who doesn't like to read but he's perfectly happy for me to spend alone time reading whilst he does his own hobbies such as gaming. I think everyone has their own way of enjoying escapism. We can still talk to each other about any topic and he listens to me vent or gush about a book with no problem and we have similar hobbies and likes that we can talk about and enjoy together also. If I ever wanted to talk in depth about a book or recommend one, then I can talk to my close friends who enjoy reading or even a forum like this so I had never seen it as an issue personally.

Not only I could, but i do! To be honest it is not so bad. I'm reading my books, he watches engineer's videos. We have our personal hobbies and it is not in the way of our relationship. I have to share that it is very sweet of him, when he surprise me with new book when coming home from work.

I understand many of the opinions stated, but I still think that it's going to be hard when he doesn't even like reading ! Again if he reads from time to time and enjoys a good book, but isn't obsessed as I am,-I am okay with that ! But a person not reading at all ? I just can't imagine falling in love with this person.

Everyone is entitled to choose their own hobbies and reading is one of mine. So yes, I could. As long as he let's me read in peace, that is.

Way to have an insightful argument. I like it.

I'm in the exact same situation! Sometimes, when he is interested in a book, I can tell him all about it. And, when I'm curious about a game, he can tell me all about it!

Most definitely not! Books are such a passion and I want to be able to talk to someone about them. It’s a huge part of my life and they’d have to share it too.

What if you can tell them about it. They don't have to read.

I am engaged and my Fiancee likes to read just nowhere near as much as myself. We also have quite different tastes in book! However, this works quite well as it means that when we read the others books we are reading something we normally wouldn't have even picked up and sometimes we are pleasantly surprised at what we enjoy. We've been doing book swaps which hsa been great fun!

Too late! Been married to a non-reader for 12 years plus now. She hates it when I am reading (I don't blame her, I am terrible company when reading, answering with grunts/signs or not even answering depending on her engrossed). She believes she comes second best to my books which I deny all the time.
My son is cool with my reading, means he can video game to his heart's content until I drop the book.
