Memories Of Old Montana by Con Price. An account of the experiences of a real life cowboy in the latter years of the 19th century. He tells of the cattle drives, the wild cowtowns and the interesting people he knew over the years. He was a close personal friend of the artist Charles Russell and says quite a bit about him. A must read for old west enthusiasts.

I've recently finished Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I enjoyed it much more than I expected to. It has a lot to offer beyond the usual nature vs. nurture and the limits of man debate. I'd give 3.5/4 stars. It's also told in the epistillary style, which adds interest to the narration.

The last book I read was The Lost Identity Casualties by Kim Ekemar. I gave it 3 out of 4 stars because I felt that the narrative felt choppy and needs to improve more, but it has potential.

Yesterday, I read Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi. I gave this children's book 3 out of 4 stars. It is book eight in the Inca Cat Detective Series. It was the only one I read, but I enjoyed it. I appreciated the information about the Korean DMZ. The story incorporated it making it interesting and not overly scary. The villain in this the first half of the story was ridiculous and comical. I thought the whole thing was whimsical. Later it was more emotional, but nothing too intense for the main audience. :D :D

First Person by Richard Flanagan, one of my very favourite Australian authors, is a really well-written book about nothing much at all.

Sure, the class of his immense literary skills is on full display, but the story idea is totally uninspiring.

It is the story of an aspiring writer (Kif) who, desperate for funds (his wife is due to give birth to twins), agrees to ghost write an autobiography for a notorious criminal (Ziggy Heidl), about to be tried and likely to be sent to jail for a very long stretch.

But Ziggy is completely weird, and won't cooperate with Kif in providing details for the book. So, Kif just makes it up from a few bare-bones details at this disposal.

The last 50 or so pages, a summary of the decades of Kif's life after the publication of his book, are gratuitous and pointless, and are just filler to make the novel thicker - pretty much like Kif's "autobiography" of Ziggy Heidl.

I really hope that Richard Flanagan comes up with a better idea for a novel next time, because he is such a great writer, and First Person is well below his normal standard, which is such a shame.

3 stars out of 5

The last book I read was "Turtles All The Way Down" by John Green. A really enjoyable reading, which I liked more than "The Fault In Our Stars" for some aspects. It deserves four out of five stars!
